THE EBORACUM ROMAN FESTIVAL – Wed 1 to Sun 5 June 2016

Armies of ancient Rome are marching on York again this summer as part of a new festival, complete with military parades, siege weapon demonstrations, guided walks and expert speakers.  The festival will be based in the York Museum Gardens where there will be fighting displays and children’s army drills from members of six Roman Legions, a Roman camp showing domestic Roman life and stalls selling themed goods.

Over 50 Romans will march through the streets of York on the Saturday and Sunday mornings. A series of guided walks and talks by leading experts will take place at various venues around the city.  For more details visit Yorkshire Museum Trust.

FOSSGATE FESTIVAL – Sunday 5 June 2016 at Fossgate – 10am to 6pm

FREE ENTRY and children welcome to a street party like no other, Fossgate Festival is a unique way to experience York in a family friendly, continental-style atmosphere. Relax at a street cafe or bar, have fun with the kids, listen to some live music or get up and dance! 

FLYING SCOTSMAN SEASON – National Railway Museum – up until 19 June 2016 from 10am to 6pm

A FREE exhibition focusing on the celebrity of the world’s most famous locomotive. Why is Flying Scotsman so well-known and how has that fame manifested itself?  Children welcome.

ALSO IT’s HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIG! – Saturday 4th June 2016 – 10am to 5pm

It’s a whole decade since DIG opened and they’re celebrating with games, competitions, party crafts, presents, balloons and of course, birthday cake!  The whole attraction is in on the fun, so whether you’re digging in the excavation pits or enjoying games in the garden, there are lots of surprises in store for party guests!
